About the Artist


“I thought everyone was good at it, I didn’t realize it came easy,” Barbara claims when describing her lifelong artistic talent. From her own experimentation through various mediums, and eventually becoming a college art student, Barbara went on to teach high school students at Bishop Guilfoyle in Altoona. She now manages the Altoona space of the Southern Allegheny Museum of Art, where she has been for ten years. Barbara also maintains her own studio space in her house where she can freely work. Aside from working in pastels, watercolors, inks, and acrylics, she paints this mixed media on steel, where is she is drawn by Eastern influences and also includes various Biblical quotes. Although her work has recently become more abstract, she strives to create without losing the sense of color or composition. But must importantly, she emphasizes the need to embrace each day as an artist and as a human as well.
